The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

Severe. No hope. Scorching. Pain. Uncomfortable. Dead. Long. Miserable. Lack. Have any of these words ever been used to describe you? Have they ever been used to describe your current situation? Each one of us has encountered or is currently experiencing different circumstances that can be likened to a drought- a period of dry weather or extended shortage of some kind. Even in the midst of a drought, we can have hope in God because “He’s a Drought Deliverer”.

The first point of today’s thought is that you and I must remember that a drought is not permanent; it’s only temporary. James 1 verses 2 to 4 reminds us, “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.”

The next point we must know is that there is a purpose in our drought seasons. James 1:12 says, “God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”

Ultimately, trusting in God’s direction and provision can give us hope and strength during a drought. We are reminded in 1 Peter 5:10 that Peter says, “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.”

In periods of a spiritual drought, do not oppose what God may be revealing or working within you. Despite our present situation, we can trust that God is ready and capable of providing deliverance in His own way and in His timing.
