The Thought For Today

Encouraging You Through God's Word

As I continue to grow spiritually, I often get off track, distracted by life, and become consumed and overwhelmed by unmet desires and expectations. I was recently reminded about the reasons why so many of us lose hope, waver in our faith, and question the love of God. But thank God for Jesus who is our mediator, our High Priest. He reminds us that we are KNOWN!!!!

When we remember the unchanging character of God, it reminds us that being known by Him is not just what He does, but it is who is He. Be encouraged—our God is always present and fully aware of every detail of our lives. As Psalm 139 reminds us, there’s nowhere we can go from His Spirit and nothing He doesn’t already know about us—even before a word is on our tongue. Then Proverbs 15:3 assures us that “the eyes of the Lord are in every place, watching the evil and the good” and Psalm 34:15 declares that “the eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.” So, take heart—Psalm 46:1 promises that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” He sees you, knows you, and is always near.

When we look at Scripture, we can learn unlimited ways that we are known by God, but we’ll just look at three. One way we are known by God is found in 1 Corinthians 8:3. Being known by God begins with His love for us. Before we ever loved Him, He loved us first and drew us to Himself. When we respond to that love with obedience and trust, we are partnering, agreeing with not only the character of God but with His word. God’s knowledge of us isn’t distant—it’s personal and rooted in love. Because He knows us deeply, we can live with confidence that we are fully seen, fully loved, never forgotten, and yes fully known. (“But if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.” 1 Corinthians 8:3)

Another way we can identify that we are known by our Father is believing in John 10:14 that reminds us, “I am the good shepherd, and I know My own, and My own know Me.” Jesus is speaking in chapter 10, and He is reminding us that He calls His relationship with us intimate and reciprocal. We are known by God as His sheep when we listen to His voice and follow His lead. The world offers many voices that compete for our attention and contradicts God’s word, but when we stay close to Jesus—the Good Shepherd—we live securely under His care; do not minimize this fact. Being known by Him means we are never overlooked, never lost, and always loved.

Finally, 2 Timothy 2:19 confirms that God’s solid foundation stands firm, marked by two truths: “The Lord knows those who are his” and “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness”—emphasizing both God’s sovereign knowledge of believers and their responsibility to live holy lives. God’s seal is on those who trust in Jesus, proving that we are His and He will never forsake us. As we walk in obedience and turn from sin, we reflect the reality of who we are—chosen, set apart, and fully known by our Lord. (“The Lord knows those who are His, and everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.” 2 Timothy 2:19)

Our encouraging takeaway: Since we are known by God, we are seen and loved regardless of our circumstances, what we see with our eyes, hear with our ears, and feel with our feelings we are known so trust that!

  1. Thank you so much for the reminder. It’s often that I feel unseen and/or unheard. The Lord is always there; we just have to be mindful and remember Him.
